About R&A Sports

Founded in 2026 by Romi Ropati and Andy Cowan, R&A Sports Limited is a New Zealand-based athlete management agency with a local & global outlook. 

Our approach is grounded in trust, guided by integrity, and focused on long-term impact. We are athlete-first, always championing growth, supporting wellbeing, and standing beside every person we represent through every stage of their career.

R&A Sports is an athlete representation and strategic partnerships company committed to creating exceptional opportunities for athletes

Representing and developing athletes across multiple professional sports. We negotiate contracts, open international pathways, and help our athletes navigate opportunities in NZ, Australia, the Pacific, Europe, Asia, and North America.

But our work goes far beyond the contract. We take a holistic approach, combining performance representation with wellbeing support, education planning, and long-term life strategy. Because sustainable success on the field starts with the right foundations off it.

Highlights - Romi ropati

MEET THE TEAM

  • Romi brings over two decades of elite rugby experience across three countries, having represented Auckland, Otago, the Highlanders, Toyota Verblitz and Castres

    .Born in Auckland, Romi's career took him from New Zealand's domestic competition to the professional leagues of Japan and France, giving him a rare breadth of perspective on what it takes to perform at the highest level across very different sporting cultures. It's this lived experience, the demands, the pressures, and the personal growth that comes with elite sport, that shapes the way he works with athletes today.

    Romi is driven by a genuine passion for people. Since retiring from professional play, he has worked in the field of youth mentoring and mental health, and is currently completing his accreditation as an NZRPA (New Zealand Rugby Players' Association) registered agent. His work is grounded in the belief that the best support for an athlete goes far beyond performance. It starts with the person.

    At the heart of his approach is a simple but powerful conviction: Athlete First. Whether working with emerging talent or established professionals, Romi is committed to helping athletes not just succeed in sport, but truly thrive.

  • Andy Cowan brings over a decade of experience leading people-centred initiatives across sport, community development and industry innovation. He has built a reputation for creating environments where individuals and teams can truly thrive, with a career defined by a commitment to wellbeing, inclusion and growth.

    Andy's work has always centred on strengthening the connections between people, purpose and performance. He is guided by a belief that success should be measured not only by outcomes, but by the sustainability and fulfillment of those working to achieve them. It's a philosophy that brings a holistic, human-focused perspective to every partnership he enters.

    Now applying this thinking to the world of athlete management, Andy's approach is built on care, integrity and long-term career development. At R&A Sports, athletes aren't just represented, they are genuinely partnered with, supported across both their professional potential and personal wellbeing. Because true excellence, in Andy's view, comes from balance.
